Here is a view from a cottage in Charleston where I was recently on a family vacation. It fortunately had a screened porch, where I was able to paint without interference from ferocious mosquitos or brutal sun.
Since we have been in the middle of the Brood XIV Cicada emergence, I have found the little critters fascinating. I of course had to paint one for my bug series. I won't see them again for 17 more years. Thankfully, I have thousands of models to choose from.
New Show and Sell Show at a new and interesting location! Friday night, May 30, at the building next to Phil Mechanic in the River Arts District. Drive past the Wedge Gallery, go under the bridge and enter from the rear loading dock. We will have some fresh new work for you to see, so if you are in the area, come on down. It is from 6-9 pm....
This spring has been amazing with the show of color. This is a new painting of a redbud tree in a friend's backyard. It was painted en plein air, or on the spot. It just doesn't get much more inspiring than this.
I currently have work hanging at the Clingman Cafe in the River Arts District. The cafe is a wonderful venue to showcase work, and my paintings really liven the joint up! The show will be up through the end of March, so stop by and check out my newest painting in pastel, 'Widow Creek Falls', while having a steaming hot latte.
If you have seen the blog before, you are familiar with the Show and Sell group shows I have been doing. Well, there is another one coming up! Our next one is February 22-23 at the Vadim Bora Gallery at 30 1/2 Battery Park Ave, downtown Asheville. The opening reception is Friday evening from 6-9, while the show continues on Saturday from 11-4. Please check out our new website showandsellasheville.com. There will be something for everyone's tastes, so stop by and see what you like.
A new bug painting, this one is a beautiful luna moth! With its delicate colors and gorgeous shape, this was a fun one to paint. It is oil on paper with deckled edges. It's small at 7x7 inches, and looks great framed on a dark background. A friend was nice enough to find and save this moth for me.
