Grant Recipient

I am the proud recipient of a Regional Artist Project Grant! My project will be to explore the medium of encaustics and to use some of my own beeswax from my bees in the paintings I create. The other part of this is to raise awareness of the importance of bees to our food chain, and how they are in decline. I have already done a bee portrait, and plan to incorporate more bee imagery into these new works. So check in often to see the progress!
This program is funded, in part, by a Regional Artist Project Grant of the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, and the Asheville Area Arts Council.

Fall Studio Stroll

Twice a year, every second weekend in June and November, Asheville’s River Arts District opens to the public for two days of festivities known as the STUDIO STROLL.

Mark your calendars for the next Studio Stroll: November 8 & 9

Ashevillehistorictrolleys600px UPDATE: We are pleased to have the Asheville Historic Trolleys providing shuttle service this year! Strollers can catch the trolley at any stop along the route and ride between studio buildings. Asheville Historic Trolley Tours will provide this service, which will make eight stops in the District and loop back to the Chamber of Commerce in a 30-minute circuit. The fare is $5.00 for an entire day—hop on and off and visit all of the studios. Trolley drivers will provide narrative history of the River District during rides.

Come by and see me at the Cottonmill Studios! Click on the River Arts District link at right for more information.

James Island View

Here is a view from a cottage in Charleston where I was recently on a family vacation. It fortunately had a screened porch, where I was able to paint without interference from ferocious mosquitos or brutal sun.

Cicada

Since we have been in the middle of the Brood XIV Cicada emergence, I have found the little critters fascinating. I of course had to paint one for my bug series. I won't see them again for 17 more years. Thankfully, I have thousands of models to choose from.

Redbud Display

This spring has been amazing with the show of color. This is a new painting of a redbud tree in a friend's backyard. It was painted en plein air, or on the spot. It just doesn't get much more inspiring than this.

Clingman Cafe Show

I currently have work hanging at the Clingman Cafe in the River Arts District. The cafe is a wonderful venue to showcase work, and my paintings really liven the joint up! The show will be up through the end of March, so stop by and check out my newest painting in pastel, 'Widow Creek Falls', while having a steaming hot latte.

Luna Moth

A new bug painting, this one is a beautiful luna moth! With its delicate colors and gorgeous shape, this was a fun one to paint. It is oil on paper with deckled edges. It's small at 7x7 inches, and looks great framed on a dark background. A friend was nice enough to find and save this moth for me.

Auto Shop

This scene is right across the street from my studio, and I have been admiring it for years now. I finally painted it in the nick of time, as they have moved out and the building will soon be gone, to make way for a greenway. I am happy to have recorded it in its glory, and will miss all the interesting cars that came through there.
