Maggie

This is Maggie Mae. She is my constant studio companion. She wanders about and visits other working artists, especially her favorite- Marty, downstairs, who gives her yummy treats. Come see her new portrait at my studio this weekend. It is the Studio Stroll weekend in the river arts district, Saturday and Sunday, from 10 to 6. There will be over 70 artists, with all types of art to see.

Bugs

Here is another bug from my current show at the Arts Council. This one was found and given to me by my husband. The bug paintings are done in oil on paper. The paper has deckled edges and is mounted on board, then framed, so that the texture of the paper can be more appreciated than if it was under glass.

Mills River

This is another painting that is in my current show at the Arts Council. It's called "Mills River Swimming Hole". I did most of this painting on location at the North Mills River Rec. area, which is gorgeous. I was actually standing on a rock in the middle of the stream to get this view. A very pleasant place to work! I finished the painting in the studio from reference photos. This painting was previously seen in a group show by the River District Artists, which was also at the Arts Council, in the Front Gallery this past June.
I had a great turnout at my opening reception this past weekend- thanks to everyone who came!

Welcome

Welcome! This is the first posting of my new blog. I have posted some images of my paintings, with many more to come. Please leave feedback if you are inspired to do so.
The image at left is the first from my bug series, which will be hanging in my upcoming show, "Landscapes Big & Small: Bugs and the Places They Live". It will be up September 1 through November 10 in the Boardroom Gallery at the Arts Council downtown. I will be having a reception on Friday, Sept. 8, from 5-8pm. The address is 11 Biltmore Avenue. Come on down and check it out.

This is a pastel landscape of the Ivestor Gap Trail near Shining Rock off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is one of my favorite areas to hike and camp. The sky is gloomy looking because it had been raining a lot. In fact, we barely got our tents up in time for the sky to open up.
